Romania will soon create the National Citizenship Agency and will increase the number of employees dealing with the applications for regaining Romanian nationality so as to reduce the term for examining these applications, the Romanian senator Viorel Badea, who is the vice chairman of the commission for foreign policy, told a news conference in Chisinau on Tuesday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Badea said that the citizenship regaining process is rather slow owing to the large number of applications and the low number of employees that process the applications. Normally, the applicants should expect not more than three months. But, as the Ministry of Justice has a low number of employees, they are now examining the applications submitted in 2006. During the last three months alone, the number of applications for Romanian nationality exceeded 200,000,” the Romanian senator said, stressing that the executive was asked to raise the number of employees to about 100.
As to the obtaining of visas for Romania by Moldovans, Viorel Badea said that Romania must assume certain obligations towards the EU. “However, everything possible was made to ease the visa granting process,” he said.
Badea also said that the Romanian authorities will soon name a new ambassador in Chisinau, who will represent the true value that Moldova has in Bucharest and will be able to promote the real interests of the official Bucharest in this part of the world.
He said that the introduction of a visa regime for Romanian travelers was ʾa medieval decisionʾ.
The Romanian senator stressed the necessity of improving the economic relations between the two countries. “Romania had to get involved in the Moldovan business as well, but such a mistake should be never repeated.”
Viorel Badea announced that he would soon open a parliamentary office in Chisinau.
