Romanian President Klaus Iohannis during his swearing-in speech called on the Romanian parliamentary parties and the social and academic actors to form a national consensus in support of Moldova's European integration, IPN reports.
“We welcome the result of elections in Moldova, which express a clear option for a pro-European course. For us, this result is an obligation for the years ahead to be the main support of our brothers on the other side of the Prut so that their goal of European integration transforms from desire into reality. I call on you, the parliamentary parties, and all the social actors, the academic environment, to frame a national consensus around this goal”, said Klaus Iohannis, quoted by mediafax.ro.
The official stressed that political statements must by backed by concrete action formulas in order to assist Moldova's European integration in an effective and efficient manner.
Klaus Iohannis was elected President of Romania on November 16, when he defeated Victor Ponta in the second round of the ballot. Later, during a visit in Chisinau, he expressed his hope that Moldova will join the EU during his term.
