The Parliament of Romania will hold an extraordinary session at the start of July in order to ratify the Association Agreement between the EU and Moldova, President of the Romanian Senate Calin Popescu-Tariceanu announced in a meeting with a delegation of the Moldovan Parliament, led by the head of the commission on foreign policy and European integration Ana Gutu, IPN reports.
According to the Parliament’s press service, Calin Popescu-Tariceanu said that Romania wants to be the first state that will ratify the Association Agreement so as to transmit a powerful signal for the European partners to follow its gesture in their national legislative bodies. “We want to contribute so that Moldova’s European course is smooth, while the road to the EU is as short as possible. Romania aims to obtain broad support for Moldova from the EU member states,” he stated.
Co-chairwoman of the Joint Moldova-Romania Parliamentary Commission for European Integration Ana Gutu invited Calin Popescu-Tariceanu to attend the Moldovan Parliament’s sitting where the Association Agreement with the EU will be ratified.
The Moldovan delegation also had a meeting with the Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies Viorel Hrebenciuc. The official reasserted the Chamber of Deputies’ readiness to vote for the ratification of the accord as a matter of urgency.
After the Association Agreement between the EU and Moldova is signed on June 27, it is to be rarified by the Parliament of Moldova and by the legislatures of all the EU member states.
