Romanian MEPs get involved

The vice president of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee Ioan Mircea Pascu was appointed as rapporteur of the European Socialists and Democrats on the Association Agreement between Moldova and the European Union. The MEP will formulate his political family's position on the related report, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Romanian delegation of the Group of the EP's Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats. “This appointment represents the materialization of the commitment of the Romanian MEPs of the Group of Socialists and Democrats to watch over Moldova and help it benefit from all the EU's support in better coping with the internal problems and joining the EU,” Ioan Mircea Pascu said. Another Romanian MEP, Social-Democrat Adrian Severin, was named as the EP's rapporteur on Russia. He will deal with the report “The EU-Russia Partnership and Cooperation Agreement” which is one of the most important foreign policy issues of the European Parliament. From July 2009, Adrian Severin has been vice president of the Group of European Socialists and Democrats on foreign policy and defense matters. During January 2007 – June 2009, he had been chairman of the EP's Delegation for Relations with Ukraine.
