If the Romanian language is not declared official language and is not promoted by the authorities, the people will never learn to speak it correctly, considers actor Nicolae Darie. Contacted by IPN, the actor said the Moldovans speak Romanian incorrectly and use Russian words when speaking it.
According to Nicolae Darie, the results of the Baccalaurean exams in the Romanian language are a shame. The students who studied in high schools teaching Russian were unable to utter at least something in Romanian. “The people of science say they speak Romanian between the Prut and the Nistru. If not the Government and the Academy of Sciences, then who should decide that the language we speak in Moldova is Romanian?” asked Nicolae Darie rhetorically.
Composer Eugen Doga said that in the Soviet period, those who spoke Romanian and were taken to a Russian school were forced to comply and learn Russian there. They should do the same now. The Russians should speak the official language of the host country. “Russia is home to 20% of Muslims and they all speak Russian. Why you have to know Russian when going to Russia, but you do not have to know Romanian when you come to Moldova?” asked the master.
Eugen Doga added that policy to promote the Romanian language is strictly necessary. “All the Russian TV channels are present in Moldova. I’m not against them, but the TV channels broadcasting in Romanian should be promoted. The linguistic strengthening of society and the state is imperative. If this is not done, we will disappear as a nation,” he stated.
