Romanian Language Day celebrated today with vast list of events

Moldova is celebrating the Romanian Language Day today with a vast list of events ranging from a mass dictation contest, to an international congress dedicated to the national poet Mihai Eminescu, to President Klaus Iohannis’s visit to Chisinau.

At 09:00, the Great National Assembly Square will host the Great National Dictation, with over 1,700 contestants expected to take part. President Maia Sandu and Minister of Education Dan Perciun will also attend.

At 10:00, the Chisinau administration will lay flowers at the statue of Mihai Eminescu in the National Theater Square, and then at the poet’s bust on the Classics Alley in the Ștefan cel Mare Garden.

Meanwhile, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova will celebrate the Romanian Language Day in a series of events held in partnership with the Romanian Academy. A featured event is the international Congress of Eminescu Scholars, which has reached its 13th edition.

Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis will be welcomed at the Presidential Palace at 11:00, and following discussions that will take place behind closed doors, Maia Sandu and Klaus Iohannis will hold a joint press conference. This will be preceded by the signing of a joint declaration on bilateral cooperation to strengthen Moldova’s resilience, democracy and stability. The two presidents will then head to Classics Alley to lay flowers at Mihai Eminescu’s bust.

Starting at 16:00, the Chisinau municipality offers creative activities for children and adults on the Eugen Doga Pedestrian Street. A music and poetry show will start at 18:00, featuring Geta Burlacu and VoxMen Acapella, Cristina Scarlat, Brio Sonores, Natalia Barbu, Cătălin Josan, Nicolae Jelescu, and the Cristofor Aldea Teodorovici Orchestra.
