The budget of the Romanian Television Corporation has been supplemented Tuesday with an additional RON 360,000 (about MDL 1.8 million) to enable further retransmission of TVR1 programmes in Moldova. Romania’s Prime Minister Calin Popescu-Tariceanu stated that in his view this is a thing Romania must do for the sake of Romanian-speaking citizens of Moldova. Moldova’s Information Development Minister and the Romanian TV Corporation, which received the money for the retransmission, will jointly handle this problem, Tariceanu explained. The Ministry of Information Development said that the Romanian side stopped paying for the retransmission services in mid-June, and the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) decided on July 31 to auction the state-owned network No.2, which is currently relaying the Romanian channel in Moldova. However, BCC Chair Vlad Turcanu said the Council might reconsider the respective decision.
