Probably President Vladimir Voronin or his counsellors concluded that, from an electoral perspective, identifying some sort of an external political rival would be favourable, Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Adrian Cioroianu stated in an interview for the Adevarul Newspaper, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
Vladimir Voronin often makes statements concerning Romania and President Basescu. Maybe a conclusion was made that in view of the elections, he needs an opponent from outside, since the local opposition is rather dispersed, Cioroianu commented.
According to him, despite all the accusations brought by Chisinau authorities against Bucharest, Romania accepts the existence of two Romanian-speaking countries in Europe. “It is an official position”, the minister emphasised. The accusations about Romania unrecognizing the independence, sovereignty and the border with Moldova are unfounded, Adrian Cioroianu added.
Moldova is today more at the declarative stage of the EU integration direction than at the stage of concrete measures, the head of the Romanian diplomacy said. Romania is willing to support any pro-European project, any declaration of faith and will of the authorities in Chisinau in the direction of the European Union. “I wouldn’t say that, at the moment, the EU direction is a top priority in Chisinau”, Cioroianu stated.
The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentioned that Bucharest is still intending to open two new consular offices in Balti and Cahul, but unfortunately there wasn’t too much feedback from Moldova.
Cioroianu stated that sometimes there is an impression that President Vladimir Voronin wants to place Romania on a second level compared to other EU member-states. “We don’t worry about the fact that they have better relations with someone else, we’re concerned about the fact that there isn’t a better relationship between Moldova and Romania”, Cioroianu mentioned.
Concerning the linguistic issue, the Romanian official stated that he will accept the “Moldovan language” only after accepting the “Brazilian, Mexican and Austrian” ones. “From the historic and linguistic points of view the things are so clear that politics can only pervert them. We talking about the same language, the name of which is Romanian”, the official concluded.
