The 5th edition of the Romanian Film Days festival in Chișinău was inaugurated last night, when the latest film by Romanian director Corneliu Porumboiu - La Gomera, made in 2019, was screened. Over the course of three days, between October 10 - 13, nine feature films and five short films are screened.
According to the Romanian ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Daniel Ioniță, the films presented in this year's edition are of exceptional value. He brought as an example "La Gomera", which is submitted by Romania for an Oscar nomination. "Art has no boundaries, while valuable art crosses all kinds of barriers. It is important that with the help of such events we contribute to solidify the links between our countries", said the ambassador.
Romanian director Marian Crișan said that only the best movies of the year produced over the Prut, not necessarily commercial ones, are brought to the Bessarabian audience during each edition of the Romanian Film Days festival. "We are trying to choose from the films that had the biggest impact at global festivals", said the director.
"The Romanian Film Days is a reference event for the cinematic scene east of Prut. We have big plans to bring as often as possible the new Romanian cinema artworks to Bessarabia, a cinema that is on the right track”, said Valeriu Matei, director of the Romanian Cultural Institute "Mihai Eminescu" in Chișinău.
The Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, Victoria Nagy Vajda, said that the Romanian Film Days festival is one of the most important Romanian events. "We are part of the Romanian cinema, because we are part of the same cultural space", said the secretary.
