A number of 100 Romanian films will be shown in 100 towns in Romania, Moldova and Cernauti region of Ukraine this year, as part of the centenary of the union of Bessarabia and Romania. The Romanian Film Centenary was opened in Chisinau on April 27, after almost 100 days of the launch of the event in Iasi, Romania, IPN reports.

In the launch conference, PR manager of the project “Romanian Film Centenary in the Republic of Moldova” Valentina Iusuphodjaev said by such events they want to draw up the map of Great Romania. The 100 films were chosen with difficulty as Romanian cinematography is very rich. “We come with titles of films prepared by generations of filmmakers,” stated Valentina Iusuphodjaev.

Valeriu Matei, director of the Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu” in Chisinau, which is the partner of the event, said 2018 is special because it is the year of the centenary of the Great Union, but from now on will be even more important by the screening of these films. The Moldovan public, especially in rural areas, is waiting for such a large-scale event.

“Now that we reached this stage, we write a page in history. The Romanian Film Centenary will present films that cannot be often seen on the screen. This is a unique project,” stated Andrei Giurgiu, PR manager of the project “Romanian Film Centenary in Romania”.

The Romanian Film Centenary started at the Odeon Cinema in Chisinau with the film “Forest of the Hanged”. The film “Two Lottery Tickets” will be shown at the Home of Culture in Calarasi starting at 5:30pm on April 28. At the Home of Culture in Straseni, “East Business” will be screened starting at 5pm.
