The Consulate of Romania will soon move into a building located at the intersection of Grigore Ureche Str. and Ismail Str in downtown Chisinau. At today’s meeting with Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, Romanian Ambassador to Moldova Filip Teodorescu stated that the recently rented new office is much roomier than the present headquarters. This will enable the consulate to double or even treble its visa processing capacity. Thus, the consular division of the Romanian embassy will be able to service more than 2,000 persons each day, Filip Teodorescu noted. The Ambassador added that the building will need a new entrance so that the consulate is divided into two distinct areas. It is planned that one entrance will allow in visa applicants and the other one visa recipients. In this connection, Filip Teoderscu asked the local authorities for support in obtaining authorisation for the reconstruction works. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca assured the Romanian Embassy of the City Hall’s support, hoping that once the consular division moves into a larger building the queuing and overcrowding among the applicants will be avoided. The Romanian Ambassador went on to congratulate the mayor and residents of the capital on the City Day. The mayor remarked that most of the delegations coming to celebrate the Day of Chisinau are from Romania, fact which confirms the friendship and the natural closeness between the people living in Romania and in the Republic of Moldova. In this connection, a cooperation agreement will be signed between Moldova’s capital Chisinau and the Romanian city of Pitesti on Saturday, October 13.
