The Romanian communities that will be twinned with Moldovan communities will enjoy economic concessions and will get additional funds for investing in the partner settlements from the Romanian state, the head of Romania’s delegation to the Council of Europe’s Congress of Local and Regional Authorities Ludmila Sfarloaga said in an interview for Radio Free Europe. According to her, last year Prahova County invested over €100,000 in Moldova’s Leova, Hancesti and Calarasi and the cap will be raised in the future, IPN reports.

Ludmila Sfarloaga said the given announcement was made by the Prime Minister of Romania Dacian Ciolos in the General Assembly of the Association of Communes in Bucharest several weeks ago.

Thus, Ludmila Sfarloaga considers that the rapprochement and cooperation between the local elected officials of the two countries is only a step Toro wards Moldova’s reintegration into the Motherland. “From my viewpoint and the viewpoint of my friends from the country and from Chisinau, Moldova has chances to enter the EU only through Romania. A poll showed that 69% of the population of Romania wants this, but the union project is not at all promoted in the Romanian society,” she stated.

The politician also said that as long as Moldova is independent, it can decide its future by itself and if the people want to unite with their brothers from over the Prut, they will opt for this. “The Prut is a temporary and cursed border because Romania never had a border on the Prut. But we hope that until 2018, when it will be 100 years of the Great Union, what many of us want will become the wish of everyone,” stated Ludmila Sfarloaga.
