Romanian actor Florin Piersic becomes People’s Artist of Moldova

President Nicolae Timofti conferred the honorific title of People’s Artist on Romanian theater and film actor Florin Piersic. A decree to this effect was signed on January 26, IPN reports.

According to the presidential press service, the title was awarded in gratitude for the actor’s contribution to developing the theatrical art and the cultural relations between Romania and Moldova and for remarkable results in his creative activity.

In 2012, Nicolae Timofti issued a decree to grant Moldovan nationality to Florin Piersic.

During his artistic career, Florin Piersic played in dramas, comedies and tragedies and played parts of historical personalities. On May 30, 2002, Florin Piersic was awarded the Star of Romania, the rank of Knight, for his contribution to developing Romanian theater and cinematography, while in 2009 he received an award for his entire career at the Transylvania International Film Festival.

The actor was also conferred the title of Citizen of Honor of such Romanian towns as Bacau, Cluj-Napoca, Sighet, Suceava, Baia Mare, Oradea, Bucharest, and Galati.
