The statements about the existence of a Moldovan language that differs from the Romanian language defy the scientific truth, the Romanian Academy says in a declaration. It argues that many well-known linguists expressed their disagreement with such statements. The Romanian Academy as well as the populace in Romania is surprised at the fact that certain aberrant assertions that question the identicalness of the Romanian language in Romania and in Moldova have been left in the shadow, the declaration says. In continuation, the Academy expresses the opinion of scientists in the area, including from the Russian Federation, who say that the language spoken in Moldova and in Romania is the same. The political organizations from Romania and Moldova must be rational and defend the scientific truth and the right of the Romanians from all over the world to have a common language in the family of European languages and in the civilized world, Info-Prim Neo cites the declaration. The language problem reappeared in the dialogue between Chisinau and Bucharest especially after Moldova signed with the EU the visa facilitation and readmission agreements that stipulate the phrase ‘Moldovan language’. This aroused the indignation of politicians in Bucharest, while the Romanian MEPs on behalf of the Social Democratic Party refused to vote on the ratification of the two documents.
