Employers in the resorts on the Romanian Black Sea coast plan to hire workers from former Soviet countries as the Romanian cooks, waiters and bartenders are fleeing the country for a better wage in Europe. According to the Bucharest media, Romanians have left for Spain to pick strawberries, while employers in the country are doomed to suffer from a shortage of staff. The situation is more alarming in the coastal resorts, where the season requires a high gear. A similar crisis is challenging the shipyards, whose workers migrate to northern European countries or even the United States. The director general of the Neptun Olimp resort says the company experiences an acute shortage of qualified staff, which seems to be getting worse each year. He said the company had to hire this summer a significant number of workers from abroad, mainly students from Moldova. However, the solution is neither simple nor advantageous for the Romanian employers. First, youngsters from Moldova are poorly experienced, that is why they need fast and efficient training. Second, they need accommodation and meal. Furthermore, after all that, they return to their homes and leave the employer questioning himself whether they would come back the next year.
