Romania will support the recognition of Moldova’s clear European perspective at the Eastern Partnership Summit of Riga, Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu said in a meeting with Moldova’s Head of Parliament Andrian Candu, who is in Bucharest on an official visit, IPN reports.
“The Moldovan authorities should show the same determination in doing reforms and in making new progress, first of all as regards the rigorous implementation of the Association Agreement with the European Union so that the country conserves the status of leader within the Eastern Partnership,” said the Romanian official.
Andrian Candu reiterated the Moldovan authorities’ commitment to continue implementing reforms so as to come closer to the EU and to foster the relations with Romania in different areas of common interest.
On the first day of the visit to Bucharest, Andrian Candu also had a meeting with the President of the Romanian Senate Calin Popescu-Tariceanu. The Speaker asked for Romania’s support in transmitting Moldova’s clear message that it will continue on the path of European integration to the European partners. He underlined that in implementing the European legislation, Moldova banks on the good practices and transfer of expertise from experts of Romania’s Senate.
For his part, Calin Popescu-Tariceanu reiterated Romania’s firm commitment to unconditionally support Moldova in its European integration efforts. He assured that the Community acquis translated into Romanian will be provided to Moldova.
Attending the meeting, Senator Titus Corlartean said the Parliament of Romania will continue to offer Moldova’s legislative body expertise at the level of relevant commissions, through the agency of the commission for foreign affairs, including through cooperation projects with concrete support for implementing the EU legislation.
