The provision by Romania of direct support to Moldova will be an important subject that will be discussed with Moldovan officials during the official visit to Chisinau. The Romanian President Traian Basescu made the announcement on January 27, before leaving for Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting Agerpres.
“The direct support will be a topic for discussion at the meetings with the Moldovan officials. It is clear that Moldova needs not only political, but also direct support. We will discuss the methods by which we could provide this support. We already have a viewpoint on this,” Traian Basescu said.
The visit will focus on the cooperation between Romania and Moldova and Romania's support to Moldova in its efforts to come closer to the EU, and ultimately become a member of the EU, and to use the European funds.
Traian Basescu said Romania earmarked 130 million euros for joint projects with Moldova and Ukraine, but this money could not be used until present owing to the former Moldovan Communist government's attitude.
