The Prime Minister of Romania Dacian Ciolos, in a meeting with the Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg, said that Romania and the Republic of Moldova cooperate in the military sector too. He told the journalists that NATO wants to cooperate with the countries from the Eastern region that are ready for this, including Moldova, IPN reports.
“I refer to this cooperation and want to note that not against someone, not against Russia, Romania, as a member state of the EU and as an old partner of Russia, wants to cooperate with Russia. At the same time, it is important to ensure security in this area, which has been tested during the last few years. So, from this viewpoint, Romania’s commitments within NATO go in this direction, of defense, not of offensive on someone. In the same spirit, we want to develop cooperation with our neighbors, including the Republic of Moldova,” said the Romanian Premier.
For his part, Jens Stoltenberg noted that Romania is a very valued member of the Alliance, which actively contributes to the NATO missions in Afghanistan and Kosovo, to the security of the Black Sea and offers its support to the Republic of Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine in defense capacity building. “As to the response to the refugee crisis, hybrid threats, when offering support to such countries as Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia, a powerful alliance is also the essential basis for a more efficient dialog with Russia,” he stated.
The two officials also discussed the neighborhood policy, which is a priority for Romania, underlining Bucharest’s involvement aimed at supporting the Republic of Moldova.
