The book collections of Moldovan libraries will be supplemented thanks to the Government of Romania. The Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova (DRRM) on Tuesday held consultations to this effect with Moldovan librarians.

DRRM State Secretary Adrian Dupu said that the collections of Romanian books in Moldovan libraries are “insufficient” and “mostly outdated”. “For this reason, we have responded to calls from librarians on the left side of the Prut River to come to the aid of book lovers. In this regard, we had a meeting today in Chisinau with representatives of the national, district, city and village libraries. Together with them, we discussed this project to contribute books, both in physical and digital format, which we want to implement this year. We have discussed needs assessment and distribution issues, and we will talk through other details as soon as possible”, stated Adrian Dupu.

Representatives of the Moldovan librarian community expressed their interest in acquiring more books for children and adolescents, Romanian literature of general knowledge, dictionaries and encyclopedias, classic and contemporary literature, personal development books, school literature and others.
