Romania plans to hold a contest of projects designed to restore the Honorary Cemetery in Chisinau, located in Botanica district on Decebal Street, 17, nearby the “Jumbo” Mall, Info-Prim Neo reports.
This issue was discussed on Tuesday, February 20, as part of the meeting between interim mayor of Chisinau Veaceslav Iordan, and Ilie Schipor, head of commemoration, heroes and educational programmes Service of the National Office for Heroes Memory (NOHM) of Romania.
NOHM representative stated that the purpose of the visit to Chisinau City Hall was “to ask municipal authorities, in virtue of the relations between the two states, to contribute to the reconstruction of the Chapel in this Cemetery, an old church, which has only its foundation left”.
As Iordan says, Chisinau City Hall backs the idea of restoring the Honorary Cemetery, assuring the NOHM representatives of the support of the local authorities in carrying out this project. “We think that the Cemetery’s restoration is a natural and Christian gesture and that it will be a very important architecture monument in Chisinau”, Veaceslav Iordan said, specifying that the City Hall will issue the authorisation for designing the church’s reconstruction.
In the afternoon, the NOHM delegation accompanied by the chief architect of the municipality and representatives of the Land Division of the Chisinau Municipal Council paid an on-the-spot visit to examine all the issues related to the restoration works at the Cemetery.
