The Romanian Government decided to provide aid worth 150,000-200,000 euros to Moldova, consisting of Romanian products, in reaction to the Moldovan authorities’ appeal for help.
According to the Romanian “Gardianul” newspaper, Ovidiu Silaghi, Minister-Delegate for small and mid-sized business, told reporters that “Greece provided 100,000 euros in aid. We provided 200,000 euros during the first week”. Asked whether the aid is sufficient, he said that “it’s not easy to find 200,000 euros in 24 hours”.
The Moldovan government appealed to the diplomatic missions and development partners from the donor countries for help in overcoming the crisis in agriculture caused by this year’s drought. The government requested wheat flour – 72,200 tonnes, rye flour – 9,500 tonnes, potatoes – 90,000 tonnes, meat – 40,000 tonnes and other products.
Until now, Greece has offered Moldova 100,000 euros in aid, as well as Lithuania – 120,000 euros. Other states have also announced their intention to react to the Moldovan government’s requests.
