Romania decided to sign the Border Treaty with Moldova because it wants to join the Schengen area and it is pressed from outside, Communist MP Grigore Petrenko said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to Grigore Petrenko, the Communists Party of Moldova insists on signing a Basic Political Treaty and a Border Treaty. “What is signed in Bucharest today generates many questions,” he said in a news conference. Another Communist candidate for MP Ion Ciobanu said this document should have been approved first by the competent parliamentary commission. “The population does not know what this document contains. Most probably, it does not meet Moldova's needs,” he said. The Border Treaty is to be signed by Moldova's Prime Minister Vlad Filat and Romania's Foreign Minister Teodor Bakonski in Bucharest at 17.30. Teodor Bakonski stated the document was formulated during 11 rounds of talks between the two parties. Earlier, Romanian President Traian Basescu said the document will be signed in order to prevent the Communists from making this issue an electoral subject.
