The Romanian citizens who cannot prove that they actually live at the address indicated in the identity card can remain without the card if the police determine that they do not live at that address. This is provided in a bill drafted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania. It is banned registering more than ten persons at the same address if these are not related by ties of kindred, the Bucharest paper “Național” reported, being quoted by IPN. The document also refers to the Romanian citizens from the Republic of Moldova.

The goal of the normative document is to eliminate the situations when a large number of persons register the domicile at an address in a fictitious way. As dwellings are rented without contracts and the owner refuses to allow registering the residence in the building rented in Romania, hundreds of thousands of citizens or even millions can have their identity cards annulled by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, said the quoted source.

It will no longer be possible to have the domicile address confirmed by the host’s statement only. If the mention about the domicile is no longer valid and the document is annulled, the holder will be obliged to go to the community service for persons records to obtain a new identity card.

Earlier, the Romanian authorities reported multiple cases when hundreds of persons who actually didn’t live there were registered at one address. Among these were citizens of the Republic of Moldova, who regained the Romanian nationality and who needed to prove that they have the domicile in Romania for obtaining identity cards.
