The Government of Romania will provide €2 million to Moldova for buying coal that will be distributed to poor families, IPN reports, quoting publika.md.

According to the portal, in the program “Fabrika”, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Andrian Candu said that an agreement to this effect is to be signed by the two sides next Friday.

The minister of economy said that up to 13,000 tonnes of coal will be purchased with this money and the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family will coordinate the compilation of the list of recipients of coal this winter.

As to the possibility of suing Russia at the CIS economic tribunal or the World Health Organization for the ban imposed on the import of Moldovan agrifood products, Andrian Candu said such actions are long-lasting and inefficient.

“It is a purely political dispute, but I’m optimistic that it can be resolved. We haven’t yet received economic argumentation to understand how such a small country as Moldova can endanger the Russian market by its Free Trade Agreement with the EU,” he stated.

In another development, Andrian Candu said that Gazprom agreed to start talks on a new contract for the supply of gas and on the observance of the EU energy directives that Moldova pledged to implement.
