"A genuine first step in bringing the Republic of Moldova and Romania closer together," stated Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Vladimir Bolea, at the signing event for contracts to develop feasibility studies for four new bridges that will connect the banks of the Prut River.

The contracts were signed in Chisinau by Romania’s National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration and the winning bidder, which will carry out these feasibility studies.

The studies will be conducted over 12 months and will be financed from Romania’s state budget.

Romania’s State Secretary for the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Irinel Ionel Scriosteanu, emphasized the importance of the event: "Starting today, we are entering a new era in the development of transport infrastructure across the Prut River," the Romanian official stated.

Cristian Pistol, General Director of Romania’s National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration, expressed his hope that these investments will significantly improve connectivity between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, facilitating both passenger traffic and the transit of goods between the two countries.

Additionally, Cristian Pistol highlighted that these bridges will ultimately contribute to better connectivity with the European Union.

Each feasibility study costs 1.1 million Romanian lei. The four bridges are planned to be built between the following locations: Costesti (MD) – Stanca (RO), Leova (MD) – Bumbata (RO), Leca (MD) – Falciu (RO), Barboieni (MD) – Raducaneni (RO).
