Romania has implemented multiple projects designed to help the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, regardless of the spoken language, ethnicity and political beliefs, Romania’s Ambassador in Chisinau Daniel Ioniță stated during a working visit to the municipality of Bălți to celebrate the 104th anniversary of the Union of Bessarabia and Romania towards the end of his term in Moldova, IPN reports.

In a press release, the Embassy of Romania says the place of the visit wasn’t chosen accidentally. “The historical moment of March 27, 1918 was possible owing to the courageous decision of the Bălți Zemstvo (local council), which was the first zemstvo in Bessarabia that signed the act on the Union with Romania,” said the ambassador.

The visit included a ceremony to award the medal “Centenary of the Great Union” and the patent linked to Nicolae Bulat, a teacher, historian and writer, the director of the Soroca Museum of History and Ethnography. “By this medal conferred by the President of Romania H. E. Klaus Werner Iohannis, we want to thank you and your forerunners and to remember the remarkable historical moments that characterized us as a nation and that made us be what we are now,” stated Daniel Ioniță.

In a meeting with the mayor of the municipality of Bălți Nicolai Grigorișin, the ambassador noted the special character of the strategic partnership relations between Romania and the Republic of Moldova and Romania’s unconditional and full support for Moldova’s European path. He reminded of the recent donations of food, essential goods and fuel that Romania made to the Moldovan authorities to help manage the refugee crisis.
