Romania hopes that the proposal to liberalize the visa regime for Moldovans will be voted on in the European Parliament before the end of February, Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlarean said after a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, IPN reports, quoting Mediafax.

The proposal is to be voted on by the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs on February 12. After it is adopted by the European Parliament and the Foreign Affairs Council confirms its position, the decision will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union. It will take effect in 20 days of the publication.

There is clear support on the part of the EU member states, the European Commission and the European External Action Service for Moldova’s European course for achieving the objectives in accordance with the discussed agenda, said Titus Corlatean.

He also said that if things go on as planned, the Moldovan citizens will be able to travel freely in the EU in several months.

The next plenary of the European Parliament will take place in Strasbourg on February 24-27.
