100 buses for school, 3 buses for theaters and 35 vehicles for state public institutions were donated by Romania to Moldova on October 10, within the Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta’s visit to Chisinau. The official said that Moldova and Romania are a family and the ‘brothers’ always help each other, IPN reports.
Victor Ponta noted that this is his sixth visit to Moldova this year and he comes every time with an open heart. “When Romania distributed 1,600 buses for the national schools, I said that at least 100 buses of these must be donated to Moldova. I also said that Moldova should be supplied with energy and we thus decided to build the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline that will free the country from dependence on one source,” he said, adding that Romania also decided to donate €1 million for the Mother and Child Center.
“In 2019, Romania will hold the presidency of the EU and I would like Moldova to also have a chair at that long table where the EU member states come together. Many say that this is not possible, but many said this about Romania too in 2002, five years before the accession to the EU. Europe means good roads and a better life. I hope we will soon unite in the EU.”
Moldova’s Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said that Romania offered to Moldova about €40 million over the last 13 months. “The money was donated, not lent. Romania supports the education system, the healthcare sector, the energy and other sectors,” he stated.
The two Premiers went today to Cahul, where the new building of the National Musical-Dramatic Theater “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu” started to be erected. Romania contributed €800,000 to its construction. The officials also went to Porumbesti village of Cantemir district to see how the works to build the local kindergarten are executed. The project costs 8.8 million lei, 6 million lei of which is Romania’s contribution. The Romanian Government will also offer €1 million for reconstructing the Organ Hall in Chisinau.
