Romania called upon the EU member states to put forward concrete programs for supporting Moldova on its path of European integration, Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis said in a meeting with Moldova’s Head of Parliament Andrian Candu, who was in Bucharest on a visit, IPN reports.
Klaus Iohannis said the Riga Summit represents an important event for Moldova’s European course. Romania sent messages to the European states, asking that the EU should propose something more concrete and more palpable for Moldova. But the European partners also expect that Chisinau will make progress in particular matters.
In another meeting, with the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Romania Valeriu Stefan Zgonea, the interlocutors discussed the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the legislative bodies of Moldova and Romania. Prime Minister Victor Ponta reiterated the Romanian authorities’ commitment to continue the common projects launched and the readiness to extend the areas of cooperation, including to intensify the discussions on the construction of a highway between Moldova and Romania.
Andrian Candu noted the upwards trends in the commercial-economic relations between the two states, which developed especially in 2014, when Romania became Moldova’s key commercial partner. He underlined the importance of extending the construction of the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline up to Chisinau, calling on the Romanian businessmen to increase investments in Moldova’s strategic areas.
Andrian Candu paid a visit to Bucharest on March 25-26.
