The challenges and difficulties experienced by the persons of Roma ethnicity, especially young people, in accessing the right to education, culture and identity will be discussed at the annual conference of beneficiaries of the Law and Humanities Scholarship Program that will take place in Chisinau on July 5-6. The event will involve 40 Roma students from Moldova, Russia and Ukraine, IPN reports.
The conference is held by the National Roma Center with support from the Roma Education Fund (REF). The participants will share the experience of local initiatives that are developed and implemented in Roma communities and practices that address problems related to education and culture in the Roma community.
The event will start with the speeches of the REF Executive Director Nadir Redzepi from Hungary and project manager of the Remembrance, Responsibility and Future Foundation Olga Daitche from Germany.
The Law and Humanities Scholarship Program of the REF was launched in 2004 on the initiative and with the financial support of the Open Society Foundations and the Remembrance, Responsibility and Future Foundation. The goal of the program is to contribute to developing a critical mass of Romanies, graduates of higher education establishments, who would have skills and aptitudes to become professionals in their areas and to contribute to the inclusion of the Roma in society.
During 2007-2017, 628 Roma students from Moldova, Russia and Ukraine benefitted from scholarships.
