The statements made by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Rogozin in Chisinau will strengthen Moldova’s positions before its partners from the European Union, said political analyst Anatol Taranu, who considers that the Europeans saw with whom Moldova should communicate on the Eastern segment, IPN reports.

Anatol Taranu said the replies, which look more like political blackmail on the part of the Russians, will translate into greater support from the Western partners. “We must be able to explain to our European partners which are the challengers in our communication with Russia,” stated the analyst.

He believes that the policy pursued by Russia shows that the country is frustrated and does not find efficient methods to prevent the European enlargement process. “The Kremlin is desperate and this despair results in blackmail. These threats are real and Moldova should think how to respond appropriately. We may witness a new commercial war with Russia in the near future,” said Anatol Taranu.

Political analyst Ion Tabarta said Dmitri Rogozin’s statements contained no news. The Russian official was predictable and through his assertions Russia pointed to the evident problems faced by the country – the energy security and the Transnistrian conflict.

“I hope you will not freeze in winter,” Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Rogozin said in a press briefing he gave in Chisinau on September 2 after having separate meetings with Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar. The Russian official said the energy problem is important, especially before winter. He voiced hope that Moldova will not remain without gas when winter comes.
