The Moldovans eligible to vote from outside the country, who didn’t register beforehand in the electronic register of voters, will be able to vote at Moldova’s embassies and consular offices, Rodica Cibotaru, vice president of the Central Election Commission, stated in the talk show “Place for dialogue” on the public station Radio Moldova, IPN reports.
According to the CEC official, only 3,570 Moldovans from the diaspora registered beforehand. These include only 133 Moldovans who are in Russia. It is estimated that about 800,000 Moldovans are currently abroad, with half of these being in Russia.
“The diplomatic representative offices of Moldova will have additional lists and our citizens will be able to vote using the passport. The voters whose passports have the period of validity expired will be unable to vote,” said Rodica Cibotaru.
She also said that the CEC employees carried out a campaign to inform the Moldovans from the diaspora. “I was in Portugal and in France. Our citizens there didn’t make approaches to extend the preliminary registration period, to increase the number of polling places or to allow them to vote based on expired passports,” she stated.
