The president of the National Integrity Authority (NIA) Rodica Antoci said the members of her family were threatened and she informed the responsible authorities about this. She is sure that the pressure exerted on her family is related to her job and comes from persons suspected of unjust enrichment. There are now approximately 20 cases featuring functionaries who cannot justify their property, IPN reports.

Rodica Antoci noted that the threats against her and her family became more intense after NIA started to more thoroughly examine the property of public functionaries.

“Threats were made against me and my husband and I notified the responsible bodies of these. I informed the Security and Intelligence Service as the state should take attitude because my family has nothing to do with my work at NIA. My husband, my children are threatened. As the president, I will ensure the independence of integrity inspectors so that we complete the examined cases. During these years, I never instructed the integrity inspectors or asked them at what stage a particular case was,” Rodica Antoci stated in the talk show “Shadow Cabinet” on JurnalTV channel.

The NIA president noted the integrity inspectors are now dealing with about 20 cases of unjust enrichment. Some of the functionaries have fabulous properties that do not match their incomes. If their blame is proven, their assets that cannot be justified will be confiscated.

In accordance with amendments made recently to the law on the National Integrity Authority, the property and personal interests of the family members of the subject can also be examined if there are reasonable suspicions that the possessions were written in the name of other persons. Among the family members that can be subject to inspection are the husband/wife, parents/parents-in-law, cohabiting partners and children of the subject.
