The road tax for buses and trucks that transit Moldova will be reduced by 30%. A bill to this effect was passed by MPs in the first reading on March 10, IPN reports.
Democratic MP Corneliu Dudnic, bill author, said the lower taxes will not motivate the bus and truck drivers not to bypass Moldova. Now this tax is paid by a low number of subjects given that it is very high compared with the countries of the region.
Thus, the transit tax in Moldova is of €85, while in Romania and Bulgaria it is of only €11. Per km, this tax in Moldova is of about €0.34, as against €0.145 in Belarus and €0.04 in Russia.
Another proposal contained in the bill is to annul the exemptions for motor vehicles from countries that do not observe bilateral agreements. The amendments suggested to the Tax Code provide that if the states with which Moldova signed bilateral or multilateral agreements on road transport apply taxes in breach of the provisions, Moldova, for its part, will also impose road taxes.
The informative note to the bill says the goal is to ensure the financial interests of the state by accumulating the financial resources needed to cover the Road Fund costs and to promote just correlation between the paid road taxes.
