As of May 14, the 2012 Road Fund spent 226.6 million lei on road repairs and maintenance, which is 60.5% of the 380 million lei planned; the remainder has been transferred to the Ministry of Finance, Info-Prim Neo reports. At a recent meeting of the Road Fund's Board, it was said that the money was mostly spent on maintenance and running repairs of roads, making roads usable in wither, ensuring safety on the roads and sealing pits and cracks. In 2012, 73 public procurement auctions were held to assign Road Fund contracts, which accounts for 75.6% of the total money disbursed by the Fund. In 2011, this ratio stood at 72% and in 2010 at merely 50%. Among other issues discussed at the Board meeting were the accumulation of road taxes and quality standards of roadworks.
