A road bridge with four lanes is to be constructed over the Prut River not far from Ungheni town, in the vicinity of Zagarancea village. Pedestrian traffic will also be possible there.
In a response to an inquiry made by IPN, the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure says the works to build the bridges and the access road from the direction of Romania will be financed by the Romanian authorities, while the construction of the access road in Moldova will be financed with funds from the Moldovan Road Fund. The Romanian side included this facility in the National Territorial Development Plan for 2018-2020.
An estimated €35 million is needed to build the bridge, the access roads and the necessary customs infrastructure.
The project is designed to interconnect the road infrastructure between the two states, namely along Targu Neamt highway – Iasi – Ungheni – state border on Romania’s territory and along R1 Chisinau – Ungheni – state border on Moldova’s territory.
The sides build the access roads to the bridge in accordance with the national legislation and the EU regulations, with funds identified by each of them.
