In the first 6 months of this year, the number of passengers increased by 5.8% to 141.3 million. The volume of transported goods also increased, by 8.2% to 8.9 million metric tons, the National Bureau of Statistics reported.

The overall increase was mainly due to increases in road and air travel. At the same time, the number of passengers transported by river, rail and electric transport decreased by 15.5%, 14.6% and 3.9%, respectively, compared to January-June 2023.

Air transport recorded 625,400 passengers in January-June 2024, or a 19.1% increase compared to January-June 2023. Rail passenger transport recorded 309,500 passengers and a volume of 25.8 million passenger-km, with both indicators decreasing by 14.6% and 2.4%, respectively, compared to January-June 2023.

Road transport accounts for 84.3% of the total transported goods. Road transport companies transported 7.5 million tons of goods in the first quarter, of which 5.2 million tons (70.1% of the total) in national traffic and 2.2 million tons (29.9%) in international traffic.
