The risk of floods is minimal, first vice director of the State Hydrometeorology Service Elina Plesca said in a Government meeting on March 30. When the snow melts, the volume of water in the Prut and Nistru will slightly exceed the norm, but will remain within limits, IPN reports.

The temperatures this weekend will rise to 20 degrees Celsius. Next week the weather will be warm. There will be insignificant precipitation. The temperatures until April 10 will vary between 8 and 15 degrees Celsius. Afterward, it will grow colder as a result of precipitation and a cold air cyclone.

Acting Minister of the Environment Gheorghe Salaru said that though there is no danger of floods, the nature has its laws and the authorities should be ready for coping with the situation. Unfortunately, the state of the levees is unsatisfactory as they are very old.

Acting Prime Minister Vlad Fila said the problems can be solved with not so large sums of money. “Works will be performed in the risk areas, including the districts of Hancesti, Briceni, Criuleni, Ungheni, and Stefan-Voda, to reinforce the levees and prevent floods. We will examine the possibility of relocating houses,” he stated.

Attending the meeting, the head of Leova district Efrosinia Gretu asked the central authorities to devote greater attention to this district, which includes settlements situated in the Prut meadow.
