There is a risk that Moldovagaz will not be able to buy natural gas, said Sergiu Tofilat, a member of the company’s Supervisory Board. According to him, the gas reserves are enough until the end of December and urgent action must be taken therefore, IPN reports.

"For two months, Moldovagaz has been without management. Out of the nine members of the Board of Directors, only one (interim) administrator remained apparently. His powers are limited by the regulations: he can make decisions up to 11.5 million lei (or 0.1% of the value of Moldovagaz's assets.) Any larger transaction must be approved by the Board of Directors, which does not exist. In other words, if the other party requests the approval of the transaction, Moldovagaz is obliged to confirm it in two weeks, but it cannot do so because it does not have a Board of Directors," said Sergiu Tofilat.

According to him, there were two solutions, one of which was for the representatives of the Russian company Gazprom to vote for the candidates proposed by the Moldovan side. Gazprom refused, violating the statute. The second solution is to name external managers in order to ensure the normal functioning of the company. The administration is named on a temporary basis, until Gazprom accepts to vote in a new Board.

Sergiu Tofilat reminded that in September he sent a draft law to the chairman of the parliamentary commission for economy, budget and finance Radu Marian. The initiative concerns the establishment of temporary administrators at energy companies. "Then he said that we will return to this subject after the elections. I publicly ask him to register the draft law. The time has come to find out if there is political will to put things at Moldovagaz in order or there are other interests," noted the member of the Supervisory Board.
