In spite of an 81.4% decrease in exports of alcoholic beverages to the Russian Federation, which led to a 25.7% drop in the total amount of exports, the majority of exports of Moldovan goods registered increases compared to the same period last year. The total volume of exports in Q1 constituted USD 270.6 mln, by 7.8% more than in 2006, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the National Statistics Bureau, the exports to the European Union countries totalled USD 146.7 mln, marking a 35.9% increase compared to the same period last year, and 54.2% of the total amount of exports. Exports to CIS countries accounted for 33.7% of the total and made up USD 91.3 mln. The export of goods to these countries decreased by 27.6% compared to last year, generating a 13.8% decrease in the total volume of exports (mainly because of a 46.7% drop in exports to the Russian market, and 26.7% to Belarus). At the same time, the negative impact was soothed by the increase in exports to Romanian, Swiss and German markets.
In the reported period, the import of goods to Moldova amounted to USD 747 mln, with the trade deficit at USD 476 mln, by 1.7 times more than in the same period in 2006.
