The rights and obligations of the people in the real life must be respected in the virtual life too, Moldovan officials and international experts said in the Moldova ICT Summit 2016 when discussing the rights and fundamental freedoms of Internet users. Attending the event, Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola underlined the necessity of a law that would protect the people from dangers in the virtual world, noting that this law should not yet violate the human rights, IPN reports.

Minister of Information and Communication Technology Vasile Botnari said the Internment users must be informed about the risks existing in the virtual world. He stressed the importance of legislative provisions that would protect the adults and, especially, the children when using the Internet.

In another development, Vasile Botnari noted that the rights and responsibilities the people have in the real life should be respected in the virtual life as well. The government can make the virtual area safe and protected and can also maximally diminish the negative effects of the Internet.

Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau Jose-Luis Herrero said the use of the Internet, besides possibilities, implies risks such as human trafficking and acts of terrorism. It is the duty of the government to combat the negative effects of the Internet and to ensure safety in the virtual world.

Speaking about the bill on information technology called generically “The Big Brother”, the official said this law should be appraised at international level. According to the EU Ambassador in Chisinau, work should be done on this law so as to find the middle line between freedom and security.

This is the seventh Moldova ICT Summit. This event is a platform for effective dialogue between the key participants in the ICT sector – the Government, business sector, education sector and the development partners – for developing the ICT industry and for efficiently implementing ICT in the traditional sectors.
