The Global Action Week that is held simultaneously in 100 countries is staged in Moldova for the first time. The event is aimed at sensitizing and informing society about the right to education of the children with disabilities in an inclusive environment through the campaign “Equal right. Equal opportunity. Education for all”. In Moldova, the campaign is held between May 4 and 24.

In a news conference at IPN, Stela Vlasuian, who heads the Alliance of Active NGOs in the Field of Social Protection of Child and Family, said the project will be implemented in close cooperation with the Ministry of Education and has several major goals. The main objective is to strengthen the capacities of formulating education policies and the public dialogue for about 40 NGOs of the Alliance. Another objective is to assess the accomplishments and shortcomings in the first three years of the implementation of the program “Development of Inclusive Education in Moldova for 2011-2020”. The third goal is to promote national, regional and global dialogue on inclusive education.

Head of the Education Ministry’s Preschool, Primary and Secondary Education Division Valentina Chicu said that inclusive education has a specific dominant element at the implementation stage, which is aimed at developing children’s abilities to realize the own potential and to integrate into society.

“Inclusive education is not a plan of action that can be achieved by implementing it. Inclusive education is a lifestyle, a paradigm and a viewpoint throwing which each of us perceives the world. We should not forget that inclusive education depends a lot on the human factor and the perception of each of us,” stated Valentina Chicu.

She added that the most important things that speak about the quality of inclusive education are the performance and  the state of every child. The relations between the child with special educational needs with the mates, parents and other persons must be improved. In Moldova, there is a normative framework that enables to integrate every child into the community school, but inclusive education should be promoted among the people.

On May 7, about 200 children, teachers and human rights activists will promote the inclusive education of children with disabilities during a public event in the central park of Chisinau, held within the campaign launched in Moldova.
