Retail trade rose by over 10%

The retail trade in stores in January-September 2007 totalled 11.9 bln lei, a 10.7% growth compared with the corresponding period last year. Retail trade in September 2007 rose by 2.1% in real terms compared with September 2006. The sales in private retail outlets rose by 12.3% since the start of the year, making up 70.1% of the retail trade. The joint outlets with foreign participation reported a 10.8% rise in sales, up to 24.4% of the total sales. The joint, public and private outlets experienced a 16% decrease in sales in real terms compared with January-September 2006. The services provided for the population over January-September 2007 totalled about 7 bln lei or by 4.8% more, in real terms, compared with last year, the same period. The services provided by the public companies made up 42.6% of the totals services. They increased in value by 1.2% compared with January-September 2006. The private outlets saw the highest growth rate in the value of services, of 16.5%, up to 32.4% of the total services. But the services provided by the joint companies with foreign participation and by the joint, public and private companies decreased in value by 2.1% and 1.95%, respectively in real terms compared with January-September 2006.
