Not in a single voting section from Transnistria, monitored by Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Moldova (CHDOM), the participation in the referendum did not exceed the level of 50%, and mostly oscillated between 10 and 30, the head of CHDOM, Stefan Uratu declared on Monday, September 18 at a press conference. Uratu states that the results declared by the organizers were doubled or invented by the Russian “political technologists”. The cited source announced a series of violations found out the day the so-called referendum on independence was organized, for example “electoral tourism” and multiple voting. The most important conclusion, Uratu says, is that Moscow and Tiraspol decided to organize this fraud so that a legal referendum with the participation of OSCE Mission and International observers, as stipulated in the Iuscenko plan of settlement would not happen. According to the results of the referendum, 97.1% of those over 300 thousand Transnistrians who participated at this action pleaded in favor of Transnistria’s independence and its further unification with the Russian Federation. Only 2.3% of the participants voted for the unification with the Republic of Moldova. Chisinau, international organizations and western countries declared that they will not recognize the results of the referendum.
