Results of sociological survey on elections will be published in early April

The results of a sociological survey on elections will be published in early April and an international conference on reasons and solutions of absenteeism of citizens at elections is scheduled for May, Renata Lapti, deputy chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), said on Tuesday, March 21. CEC was due Monday to express its stance over the need to modify the Election Code regarding the necessity of counterfoil of ballot paper, card of elector, exclusion of electoral threshold in case of repeat elections and inclusion of the option „against everybody” in the ballot paper. However, the CEC members postponed the examination of these issuing it order to get readier. In this context, Lapti proposed the examination of this issue after the results of the survey will be made public. CEC does not hold the right to legislative initiative. According to CEC chairman Eugen Stirbu, the commission will study these issues and will deliver them later to the parliamentary team in charge with amendment of the Election Code. He said that the parliament must perform the necessary changes at the present session, in line with the European Union’s Action Plan for Moldova. Also on Tuesday, CEC approved the regulation on accreditation of journalists to CEC, awarded mandates of advisers in some localities of Moldova.
