The Ministry of Health on August 7 will present the results of the investigation into the use of household drills by doctors at the Chisinau Children’s Hospital “Valentin Ignatenco”, IPN reports.
During almost two weeks, a team of specialists of the Ministry collected facts and will formulate suggestions to prevent similar situations in the future. An assessment of the medical instruments needed at this and other national hospitals will be carried out based on the investigation results.
A film showing doctors of “Valentin Ignatenco” Hospital using a household drill during surgery appeared on the Internet on July 22. In reaction, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca demanded that the health minister examine the state of affairs at the hospital. Andrei Usatyi said then that all the subdivisions of the traumatology section and the entire institution have the necessary equipment that poses no danger to patients. But the doctors say the situation is different and expect that the authorities will provide the hospital with proper instruments. They threaten they will perform only emergency operations in case of open fractures, while the others will be postponed.
