Representatives of the official Chisinau and Tiraspol came together at the Conference on Confidence Building Measures in the Transnistrian Conflict Settlement that was held in the German town of Rottach-Egern on October 29-30. The event included thematic sessions centering on topical economic, transport and ecological issues of common interest that involved foreign experts, IPN reports.

According to the Reintegration Office, the thematic workshop on economic matters focused on the analysis of the protocol decision concerning some of the urgent confidence building measures aimed at stabilizing interaction in the economic spheres of the Republic of Moldova and the Transnistrian region. There were discussed the technical barriers to the trade between the two banks of the Nistru River and the statistic indicators on the bilateral commercial exchanges.

Another panel discussion centered on the protection of the environment. The participants conferred on the activity of the sector working groups and on the prospects of identifying pragmatic solutions to problems of common interest. At the end, these adopted a protocol decision on the management of the water resources of the Nistru River, which was signed by the political representatives to the Transnistrian settlement process Victor Osipov and Vitali Ignatiev.

In the discussions on motor transport, the representatives of Transnistria welcomed the Moldovan side’s decision to suspend the ban on crossing the Moldovan-Ukrainian border imposed on vehicles with Transnistrian license numbers until a complex solution is identified. The representatives of the official Chisinau underlined the necessity of joining efforts for finding a viable solution that would be complaint with the international conventions signed by Moldova and presented the recommendations formulated by the foreign parents, including those involved in the Transnistrian conflicts settlement process.

In their speeches at the Bavarian conference, the representatives of the mediators and observers to the talks in the 5+2 format reiterated the necessity of intensifying the dialogue within all the existing platforms and resuming the permanent conference on political problems in the Transnistrian settlement process so as to identify comprehensive and final solutions to the Transnistrian conflict that would provide a special status to the region within the internationally recognized borders of the Republic of Moldova.
