There is no optimism about the results of the activity of the parliamentary commission for elucidating the case of Banca de Economii, considers Dumitru Budeanschi, program director at the independent think tank “Expert-Grup”, who developed the theme in the talk show “Place for dialogue” on Radio Moldova station, IPN reports.

The expert argued that the previous special commissions set up to elucidate particular cases, including the April 7, 2009 events, didn’t produce many results. “I’m afraid these discussions will end, while the problems faced in the financial-banking system will continue to exist,” said Dumitru Budeanschi.

The expert leveled criticism at the National Bank of Moldova for not having an efficient system for communicating with the people. “If we analyze the information provided by the central bank during the last three years, we can see that those messages rather intensified the panic among the population. The first thing about which a person thinks when hearing a message from the National Bank is to go to the bank and withdraw the money deposited there. During three years, particular persons pursuing personal interests have warned that the banking system of Moldova is in danger. The central bank didn’t provide clear explanations what’s going on, but I think the situation is different from that presented by some. Thus, the bank should review its policy for communication with the people,” he stated.

Dumitru Budeanschi considers transparency should be ensured in the banking transactions and a mechanism should be implemented to make the legalization of money of suspect origin impossible. The image of the banking system should be rehabilitated. “The raider attacks of the last few years seriously affected the image and credibility of the banking system. The people do not trust the banks and prefer to keep their savings at home. At the same time, the lack of confidence makes the people scared. The central bank has enough instruments to intervene. It should have a tougher attitude towards the currency exchange facilities, which often speculate on the currency market,” he said.
