The leaders of the parliamentary groups of the Alliance for European Integration (the PLDM, PL, PDM and AMN) say the Declaration of Independence is a birth certificate and its restoration means national revival, Info-Prim Neo reports. The leader of the faction of the Liberal Democratic Party Mihai Godea said the Declaration of Independence that was adopted on August 27, 1991 brought the Soviet occupation to an end. “We have the responsibility of putting into practice the things provided in the Declaration. God protect Moldova,” said the MP. Corina Fusu, a member of the faction of the Liberal Party (PL), said she wants the present legislative body to bring Moldova closer to the EU, basing on the experience of the first Parliament. According to the leader of the group of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu, the solemn meeting has several connotations. “A bridge that connects the past and the present as well as the present and the future is being created today. It is a connection between generations – the first that ensured stability and the second that has the responsibility of strengthening Moldova's independence,” said Marian Lupu. Deputy Speaker Serafim Urecheanu, the leader of the faction of the Moldova Noastra Alliance, said the restoration of the Declaration of Independence is a proof that things returned to normality, despite the attempts to modify the recent history. “The fact that two of the leaders of the Alliance - I and Mihai Ghimpu – voted in favor of Moldova's independence is significant,” Serafim Urecheanu said. Most of the members of the first legislative body came to the solemn meeting to sign the Declaration of Independence. In the end, the members of the two legislatures will issue a joint statement. The parliamentary group of the Communists Party does not attend the sitting.
