The National Association of Restaurants and Entertainment Establishments MĂR says it is against the notion of a Covid certificate mandate regardless of health advisory levels.

MĂR said in a statement that measures were developed in September to contain and prevent the spread of coronavirus based on health advisory levels, which “have offered predictability to the business community in planning activities”.

“Cardinally changing these measures, which have been agreed upon by both the business community and the health care system, will cause immense damages and make economic recovery impossible”, reads the statement.

“HoReCa units adapted their activities and financial plans according to the COVID-19 incidence forecasts, recruited new employees to prepare for the transition to the orange and yellow advisory levels, adjusted rent payments according to seating capacity restrictions, and actively encouraged vaccination against COVID-19. The changes that the authorities intend to introduce will again lead to a loss of jobs, while expenses will exceed payment capacities and will bring businesses on the verge of bankruptcy. The proposed measures will also create increased health hazards for people, as they will instead choose to visit family and friends in small and enclosed spaces, without complying with anti-COVID measures and creating uncontrollable situations with a higher potential for infection”, argues MĂR.

Recently, Health Minister Ala Nemerenco said the authorities were considering making Covid certificates mandatory for admission to public eating places regardless of what the health advisory level is in a given area. Currently, certificates are only required in areas where the advisory level, which depends on incidence, is set at “red”.
